Company
Who is MiaSolé?
MiaSolé is a solar energy company developing Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) thin-film photovoltaic products. MiaSolé’s manufacturing process lays CIGS on a flexible stainless steel substrate. Based in Santa Clara, California, the company is focused on large-scale commercial and utility-scale projects.
What are MiaSolé’s goals?
MiaSolé’s ultimate goal is to enable grid parity between solar energy and traditional energy sources.
How many employees does MiaSolé have?
The company has 350 employees and operates two California-based manufacturing facilities
Who are MiaSolé’s customers?
MiaSolé is currently working with leading utilities, independent power producers and integrators to install its CIGS thin film solar products globally in utility ground mount and rooftop projects. To date, MiaSolé’s technology has been shipped to more than 30 customers in 7 countries around the world, including the United States, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, India and Saudi Arabia.
Who are MiaSolé’s investors?
MiaSolé’s investors include Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers, VantagePoint Venture Partners, Firelake Capital Management, Passport Capital, Arcelor Mittal and Ecofin.
What is MiaSolé’s main product?
MiaSolé is a leading developer of Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) thin-film photovoltaic solar panels, which are designed specifically for large-scale rooftop and ground mount installations for utilities, independent power providers and industrial scale deployments.
Technology
What is CIGS?
CIGS is a compound semiconductor material composed of copper, indium, gallium, and selenium.
What is CIGS used for?
The CIGS thin-film photovoltaic solar panels are designed specifically for large-scale rooftop and ground mount installations for utilities, independent power providers and industrial scale deployments.
What makes CIGS so great?
Unlike many competing solar energy technologies, CIGS uses no crystalline silicon to make solar cells and has been shown to have the equivalent efficiency of polycrystalline solar cells. CIGS is becoming increasingly accepted as the more cost-effective and efficient solution. MiaSole CIGS is deposited on a flexible substrate which can be configured into a wide variety of applications for utilities, building construction, automotive and consumer electronics. Costs to build CIGS cells are anticipated to fall significantly lower than the equivalent performing silicon cells.
What is the efficiency of a MiaSolé panel?
MiaSolé current modules regularly and uniformly convert >12% of sunlight into electricity and next generation modules will provide 14% efficiency, one of the highest rates of energy efficiency for thin film solar technology in the world.
What certifications does MiaSolé hold?
The MiaSolé manufacturing facilities are International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certified. In December 2010, MiaSolé’s modules up to 13% efficiency were certified to UL 1703 and IEC 61646 and 61730 standards simultaneously.
Manufacturing Process
What sets MiaSolé apart from other CIGS developers?
MiaSolé is the only solar thin film manufacturing company that uses sputtering for every step of the CIGS deposition process.
Sputtering is a proven technology that provides consistent process control, high throughput, high yield, and low capital investment resulting in low product costs.
